TRX suspension training leverages gravity and bodyweight to perform exercises. The user is in control of the challenge by adjusting body position to increase or decrease resistance.
A system for TRX suspension training workouts has been at two of the gym locations I use for a couple of years, but I never really saw anyone use it for any length of time, so I was curious to find a class and learn proper form.
The one thing you need to be aware of is your core, if you don’t have a strong core and/or you have lower back issues, this probably is not workout you want to pursue. I didn’t know this until I met my third TRX instructor. Since I have low back issues, it made it difficult for me to do certain moves until I learned the modifications.
You can get a solid resistance workout using TRX. I prefer free weights, but I’ve used the TRX YouTube channel to find videos to create my own 15- or 30-minute workouts to do before going to spinning. As I mentioned few use the TRX so if you look like you have a clue, you tend to attract a crowd, which is fine unless it is 5am and you’re keeping a tight schedule.
If you’re interested in trying TRX, I would find a studio or trainer who is certified in TRX so you get a full introduction to adjusting the straps and form for various exercises or moves.
