Make It: Felted Pillow

felted pillowSince I made wine cozies from the sleeves of a felted wool sweater, I had the body left and was trying to figure out what do with it. I considered a hot water bottle cover but I was not totally sold on the idea. I think because I like to put my feet on the bottle, but I do not like wool on my feet. Then, I thought about a purse, but the shape was too wide and shallow. As the fabric was sitting on my chair it dawned on me that it would make a great pillow for everyone’s favorite yellow chair!

Not sure if I would have enough batting for it, I pulled out old t-shirts that I have in my stash, just in case! I chopped up four t-shirts into approximately two inch squares careful to exclude any seams.

Since this was the part of the sweater from the arms down, one width was cut across from arm to arm so I sewed on the seam on the wrong side. Then, I turn it right side and sewed along the hem side, except for a opening so I could stuff it. In other words, I have non-matching seams on what is now the top and bottom of the pillow and I am okay with that because I doubt anyone notices.

Then, I began stuffing it with t-shirts squares and I used what batting I had over my t-shirt squares filler to create softness. I sewed the opening shut, fluffed it a little and then tossed it on the chair for a photo. I like how it looks, that it gives a little softness to the vinyl chair!

This is a very easy, short afternoon project using materials in your stash and you could even take it a step fancier by attaching large button, felted appliques or embroidering a design!

Oh that’s a good idea! I haven’t made much lately. A few pairs of earrings…oh and I prepped some canvases…Does that count? Hopefully I get started on some Valentine’s Day crafts this weekend!

Of course prepping canvases counts! I have jewelry on my to-do list, but I haven’t gotten to it, yet…
