I have a giveaway, but before you can enter you have to read about how after one Zumba class they tapped me for the elite finals.
Okay, not really. Actually, not even close.
After my Muscle Madness class, the instructor told me Zumba was the place to be. I knew from DVD requests at the library it has a tagline of “Ditch the Workout and Join the Party.” What I didn’t realize is that this is basically aerobics of the 1980s or step aerobics of 1990s. Had someone told me we would be working through choreographed dance moves, I probably have jumped on a bike for another spinning class. Thankfully, I walked into that gym blind.
First, thank you YMCA for offering classes on Labor Day! I attended Zumba on Monday thinking the crowd would be light, but that gym was nearly filled up with women eager to shake their way to fitness! I scurried to the back so I wouldn’t distract too many with my awesome footwork. And by that I mean with my two left feet.
The instructor walked in, cranked up the music and everyone followed her lead without her saying a word. It was nothing short of amazing! The whole class was like that, people following the instructor who didn’t wear a mic and just threw up arm signals. A few attendees shouted some words that I didn’t understand, but I guess they were making requests. I’ve never been in a class that you can ask the
DJ instructor for a certain song or routine – how fun!
Even if the instructor wore a mic and announced the moves, I still wouldn’t know much beyond a grapevine. I’m just that clueless, but I can march in place and hop around until I catch on. And guess what? I figured out enough steps to burn 449 calories. Pass me a hot pink headband, I’m ready for another class!
