Wallsits, Squats & Hot Yoga

20130103-083138.jpg

A slice of my day. 1) $8 dress 2) I forgot to bring in my gym jacket so I thought I’d strike a new pose in my pea coat 3) wallsit time for January 2 4) what I look like after a rough hot yoga session and why I didn’t blog on Wednesday.

I’m going to attempt to participate in some weekly linkups related to health and fitness. I’m already a day late and it’s only the first week, but read on to find out about what happened last night.

January Challenges

I’m participating in two daily challenges: wallsits and squats. Wallsits are timed and you take a screencap of the time, hashtag it with #HappyGluteNew and upload it to Instagram (my username is udandi).

Squats have a prescribed number each day and if you participated or followed someone participating you probably saw the schedule. I’m doing one-arm overhead press with knee lift when rising from squat because my upper body and core always need help. Last night should have been 25 squats, I did 13L and 13R with 10lb dumbbell so my arms were even. Today is 30 so it will be 15L 15R.

I’ve loaded all the numbers into my Google calendar so I am aware of what needs to be done. Since I’m using weights, I won’t be doing these in the handicap stall at work.

Hot Yoga

If you’re new here, please note that I really enjoy hot yoga. My first time was on a day in which I did spinning before work, weights after work followed by hot yoga. A couple times I’ve done spinning right before hot yoga and felt spent but okay.

Last night, I did weights and possibly got to the room too early, didn’t hydrate enough or was overwhelmed by the smell of vinegar coming off someone around me.

At one point, I came out of pose and watched my HRM go from 167 to 52 in what seemed like seconds maybe it was a minute. I heard the instructor say that nauseous feeling is normal and knew he was near me, but I couldn’t see anything. So I took to my mat in corpse (my best pose). I still felt like barf after class and on the way home. I started to perk up when I had green tea, showered and went to bed.

I’m chalking it up to an off night. I bounced back and got up this morning for spinning. There’s a photo the temp this morning, it feels colder when I leave the gym sweaty!

Other Spinning

I’ve been doing some solo spin with the help of an indoor interval app and DJ Lindsay Luv songs. Listening to her songs in successive days, I realize she uses many of the same songs but in a different order. It doesn’t matter to me since I like an hour of continuous music, I just notice the songs getting stuck in my head. My goal is to be like Lindsay and look that good when I pose 😉

Looking Forward

My packed lunch adventures will be blogged at Lunch It Punch It so if food or recipes are of interest, visit that site.

I will continue to try new fitness classes, DVDs and experiences as I’m able to fit them in my schedule.

Hi Leigha, Indoor Interval Cycling, it’s meant for bikes with a rear cog, but I just fudge that. Have you used any you like? Cycle Coach offers a free trial so that’s on my list to try next.

I haven’t tried any for spinning. I used my parents bike yesterday and enjoyed it, but I have really enjoyed my running app, so I wondered what the spinning one was like! Thanks, I’ll have to try it though….

It seems like there are tons of running apps, but not many for spinning. Keep me posted! Wall sits remind me of basketball…I’m not sure why the person said HappyGluteYear since it is really a quad burner but you sit against a wall (without a chair). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_sit

You could do lateral raises if you wanted to do something with your arms and/or if you weren’t timing yourself. Some of these people on IG use a photo timer app, but I’m not that fancy so you won’t see me taking photos of myself working out 🙂

First thanks, Julia, I’m not going to say yes or no off the bat, but let me think about it since I’m already thinking about a mud course…

I am so downloading that Indoor Interval App now. That will come in handy at the gym when I want to switch up my cardio.

Glad you recovered from that bum day of hot yoga.

Visiting from the Fitness Friday Link-Up and now following you on instagram!
