The Pioneer Woman Cooks

This week our library got in The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl and those of who follow her blog or check it were excited to see it. I was planning to scope it out to get it for my mom for Christmas. The layout of the book is wonderful, plenty of photo and done in a way that create step-by-step recipes. I was surprised the publisher did not use glossier paper so that the photos pop the same way they do on her blog. I am not a subscriber of her blog or one who checks in daily so I do not know every recipe, but I thought I read new recipes would appear in the book. Of the ones of saw egg in the hole is one our family knows, I have my own sangria recipe and onion straws are on her web site. In between recipes are little stories of her life on the ranch, which readers probably know, but new readers may wonder why they are included in a cookbook.

The book is certainly worth checking out from the library, but I am still undecided if I will buy it for my mom. I might have her flip through it and see if she swoons.

    I like your crafty blog.

Both the Pioneer Woman and Cake Wrecks blog-turned-books were on my Christmas list this year. I’m not sure if either one exceeded my very high expectations but they were both fun to thumb through over the holidays. I may try a few of the Pioneer Woman recipes but the ones I liked the most were already on the blog.

I checked out Cake Wrecks and felt a little letdown about that book, too, and wondered how a blog could be better than a book when I always believe the book is better than the movie?! I guess I expected a majority of never seen before material from both books :/
    Thanks for stopping by, Holly!
