Summer Reading

thehelpFinally the weather is looking promising just in time for Memorial Day weekend, which signals the opening of pools. Last weekend, I had my photo taken for my season pass so I’m ready to hit the pool and have been adding books to my library holds list so I have something to read or listen to any visit.

One book my reading list summer is Minding Ben, which was described in a trade journal as The Help meets The Nanny Diaries (Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus). If you’re looking for a great audiobook, try The Help, they employ four voice actors to tell this wonderful story from a debut author who hit the jackpot because her book is being made into a movie (summer 2011). If you liked The Nanny Diaries and want to read a tell-all memoir from a celebrity nanny, try You’ll Never Nanny in This Town Again: The True Adventures of a Hollywood Nanny by Suzanne Hansen

If you have a thing for celebrity personal assistant tell-all books try Chore Whore: Adventures of a Celebrity Personal Assistant by Heather H. Howard or Where’s My F*cking Latte? (and Other Stories About Being an Assistant in Hollywood) by Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff. If you’re looking for appreciation in your job or to commiserate with others in the same type of job, try:
A Working Stiff’s Manifesto: A Memoir of Thirty Jobs I Quit, Nine That Fired Me, and Three I Can’t Remember, Waiter Rant: Thanks for the Tip–Confessions of a Cynical Waiter by Steve Dublanica or The Customer Is Not Always Right: Hilarious and Horrific Tales of Customers Gone Wrong.

Happy reading and as soon as the glue dries I’ll post a *gasp* craft project!
