One Year, Looking Back

In early 2012 I was going to the gym but I wasn’t checking in geo-location services because I didn’t want people to look at me think, she goes to the gym, but she doesn’t look like she goes to the gym.

Awesome attitude, I know, I spelled defeat with every thought.

By March 2012, I got my head straightened out. I put workouts into my calendar like any other important event. I logged each gym workout, each DVD workout, each meal was painfully logged into MyFitnessPal, I shared and overshared my activities on social sites and I fed (and still feed) off the enthusiasm others have for taking care of themselves.

This month, I celebrated 52 weeks straight at the gym and that’s 3 days a week on average of spinning.

These photos were taken at the same event, Cincy Winter Beerfest, but one year apart.

When I need motivation:

  • I will never look good with an extra chin
  • It was HARD doing burpees or jump ups with an extra thirty (floppy) pounds on my frame
  • The girl on the left took to heart that Bob Harper said, do more today than you did yesterday. Eventually I did his whole DVD without skipping parts, I cannot say my lower back enjoyed the last segment, but I did it

If I could make progress last year, I can go further this year. I can buckle down on my food intake, I can step up my personal fitness challenges.

Ten weeks until Memorial Day, which marks the opening of pools and summer to me. I cannot wait, but I’ve got work to do!

Great job Andi! I have gotten really lax in my workouts. You have inspired me to get back on track and really schedule it in. Keep up the good work!

Congrats on 52 straight weeks. I’ve started going to the gym twice a week to classes. I also walk on the other days – today though I got my husband to walk the loop near the park, and even though we did the two miles – and I could have easily climbed into the car not winded, or tired, I asked him if he’d do another half loop and do another mile because I wanted to feel like I worked at least a little. I think I need a bigger park near my house. It is progress when you work harder. Keep on going!
