New Fitness Classes

In order to keep challenging myself and to be flexible along with all the new gym-goers, I decided to try new classes or DVDs as available. Instead of going to the gym before work on Thursday, I went after for total body conditioning following by cycling. I wanted to see if I could handle two hours of classes.

The class descriptions are never that helpful, total body conditioning said something like cross-train for overall fitness with a mix of step, cardio jam and weights. I opted for a step with risers and 3, 5 and 8 lbs dumbbells. I’ve said this before, when I don’t know how many reps I’m doing, I prefer form over weight. I didn’t use the 3s and on a few exercises I could have used 10s or 12s.

The class alternated between cardio and weights with abs at the end. I impressed myself with being able to hang all through the cardio segments and not curse my calves or woofing it. At one point, a girl behind me say if she can do it, you can. I turned to see who she was referring to and the look on her face was sheepish as if maybe it was me. I might be the big girl, but I’ve got endurance thanks to cycling!

I didn’t stick around for all of abs because I needed to run out to the front desk to sign up for a bike (since the new management only allows bike sign up 30 minutes before class, instead of an hour) and then to that class. In both classes I heard Montell Jordan’s This is How We Do It and I tore it up when the instructor said sing along if you know the words (I rarely know the exact words, but I love to singing – tone deaf and all!).

TCB Cycle

Monday, I picked boot camp conditioning because it said circuit workout to develop strength and stamina. When the instructor said pick a group of 3-5, I almost walked out. I know it’s group fitness but I just want to work along side a group, not with a small group. I easily found a group, introduced myself (was called Angie, Amy, Annie, pretty much anything but Andi :sigh:) and stuck it out. We had 24 one-minute exercises and then during the 2-minute break I signed up for a cycling bike, came back and repeated all 24 for 30 seconds. A few of the regulars told me to come back next week and try it with the regular instructor so I think I will!

In cycling, I got my bike all set up and I’m ready to ride and then my seat got way too intimate with me so I had to hop off and find another bike that was out of commission but because of the seat. Once I fixed that, I was ready to go! I was hoping to get closer to 1200 calories burned but I think I wasn’t working hard enough during spin.

Wednesday, I tried a Real Ryder bike for the first time at the place where I do hot yoga. It is a cycling bike that can shift left and right. It was oddly interesting and HARD!

real revolution

After class, I had a message from Yelp Cincinnati that there will be a yoga/spinning event at this place – I’m so excited for others to try out these bikes.

In addition to new classes, I did my regular cycling, weight training, hot yoga and squats (those things are killing me aka 90 today).

Over at Lunch It Punch It I’ll be answer what really is in my lunch bag.

I did Real Ryder last month, and it was legit. I keep meaning to try a barre class when I visit Cincinnati – so many fun things to try there!
