Inspiration: Sewing Republic

The other night, I sat down at my sewing machine to create another table runner from dish towels like I’ve done twice before (holiday & cupcakes) and this time it was not working as well. It should have taken 30 minutes tops to iron the towels, pull out the machine, thread it, and sew. Because I had returned all the sewing books from the library, I went searching on the computer for something else to make until I could revisit my table runner.

I found projects at Bernina’s SewingRepublic, which updates weekly with inspiration from a variety of sources. In the gallery, you can select a project, get the pattern, some have videos and find more blogs to visit! There’s even a RSS feed so you can stay on top of the new hottness!

As for my dish towel table runnner, it works. It would look better if I could have found 2-inch wide brown grosgrain ribbon, but I only found satin ribbon, which is too slippery for this kind of project since I wrap the ribbon from the front around to the back and sew all at once so the ribbon cannot shift at all.

Why yes I do have a bowl with Kayne West-style sunglasses, chapstick, Coca-cola reward caps and a random piece of candy as a center piece. My cloth napkin holder clashes a little too much to be sitting there.

Clever idea. Very nostalgic fabric. At least it feels that way to me. You could make many of these for different occasions and never get tired of them.

    Willa’s last blog post..A little more progress…
