Free Weekend Workout | Cincinnati Washington Park

Saturdays at Washington Park in Cincinnati, the YMCA will be hosting free weekend workouts. This is awesome because it is free, but also because it is a chance to hang out with friends and try a new workout style.

Summer 2014 schedule

Since I know Zumba isn’t in my wheelhouse, I’m most excited about the Insanity and Boot Camp workouts. I’ve only done a TurboFire (TurboKick?) class once, but otherwise have never seen anything from the BeachBody family of workouts.

Insanity was a TOUGH but fun workout. You know the kind when you’re 12 minutes into it, have only made it through warm up and the first couple of exercises and you think to yourself, why am I here?!

But you see the instructor encouraging anyone who needs to modify and she reminds you to give your neighbors a high-five and then you think, I can hang for the next 40+ minutes. I think. And you do!

This workout was a lot of jumping and hopping and we were on concrete, so landing soft in solid shoes is essential. I left the workout sweaty and happy, but not overly sore. However, the next morning I thought my calves were going to bolt off my bones.

The fountains are now on, so the workouts have moved to the green and start promptly at 9am. If it’s your first time, arrive early to complete a waiver and settle in. We never moved from the one spot so there is room to work around your towel and water bottle (do not worry that you will have to leave your personal belongings on a bench far from your eyesight).

2016 Spring Schedule:
2-Apr: Cardio Dance & Box
9-Apr: Kick Box
16-Apr: Bell Dancing
23-Apr: Kick Box
30-Apr: NO CLASS
7-May: Kick Box
14-May: Zumba
21-May: NO CLASS
28-May: TBD

Parking is available in the garage under the park or at meters along the streets (you do need to pay on Saturdays). Visit Washington Park for more information.

Hey there, I’m that fun instructor. Lol. I’m glad you liked the workout and burned some calories. I love teaching and I especially love teaching at Washington Park. I’ll be there again in September and hope to see you there. Be sure to come up and say hi.
