Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop

In the wake of BlogHer 2009, SugarJones and AmyInOhio mentioned on Twitter that they were interested in a writing conference. I suggested that the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop for humorist writers may just be what they are seeking.

It is held every other year in Dayton, Ohio at the University of Dayton – Erma Bombeck’s and my alma mater. Previous workshops have sold out in less than two weeks – writers want IN!

For those who have never had the pleasure of a Dayton Flyer professing their love for UD, then you may not know that upperclassman live in university and landlord-owned houses. I lived in the north neighborhood a block from the Woodland Cemetery. One day my roommate (some of you met her at BlogHer) and I sat on our porch the day Erma Bombeck’s memorial rock was delivered to the cemetery. In the way that bloggers aim to build community around their niche, UD does it in person, on porches.

Looks like I didn’t make the Sept. 8th workshop. *sigh* It’s the first day of school and too much happening. I’m going to have to make sure to get a group of writer’s together for the workshop in April. Thanks for bringing that up, by the way!
