Cincy Winter Beer Fest & 5B

Cincy Winter Beer Fest will be February 15 & 16 at Duke Convention Center. Saturday, February 16 will be the second 5B – Believers in Better Beer, Blogging and Bytes one-day blog conference.

5B (2013)
For $60 you’ll get:
*BeerFest Friday 2/15
*5B Blog Conference on Saturday 2/16
*Craft Beer Industry Trade Show and Locals Tasting Session from 4:00-6:00pm Saturday 2/16
*Connoisseur session Saturday 2/16 (reception area featuring appetizer bites from 12 local chef driven restaurants each paired with a rare/super premium beer and private restrooms)

The conference is set up with three tracks (beer, food, general blogging) so there’s something for everyone: photography, working with PR, Google+, blog to book, beer reviews, social media and breweries and more (check the schedule to see what session I’m presenting).

A few of Cincinnati’s food trucks will be near for our lunch break and while I can make no promises, there was beer served last year by 11am so possibly some beer will appear at lunch?!

Here’s my recap of the 2012 5B blog conference and if you’re ready to go, visit the registration page. Last day to register is February 9.

Note: say you’re a friend of udandi and the required number blog posts will be waived.

I’ve recommended this conference for any blogger who likes networking, don’t be intimated by beer or food bloggers, I’m neither and I’ll be there!

Beer Fest
Here’s a link to my Yelp review for the 2012 event, I hope some of the logistical issues are worked out, but I’ll give some hints if you’re planning to go.

I recommend the Friday night VIP pass, which is $36 if you buy before 12/25 ($46 after). VIP provides an extra hour and an 8oz instead of 5oz sampling cup. In that hour, you can scope out the beers you want to try, make a game plan and when the doors open an open later for general admission you’ll already be ahead of the game.

On the otherhand, the food offerings are akin to fair food so if that’s not your style eat beforehand. It used to be that tickets included food, as in serve yourself coneys – yum!

Don’t bring a coat unless it is blizzard like conditions and/or you enjoy standing in two lines for coat-check drop off and pick up.

Ladies, I’m pretty sure there was plenty of toilet paper but I like to bring my own because some of you are stupid drunk, make a mess of the floor and then drop a good roll of paper in that slop. Also, I’ve been doing a fair amount of upper body work and I’m still pissed off at a drunk lady from last year so if you come at me drunk, I’ll treat you like a tackling dummy. You’ve been warned.

Where was I? Getting home. Cincinnati is not a city where cabs roam the streets, the ones that are outside the building have been requested by someone so unless that’s you, don’t steal another’s cab. If you’re planning to take a cab home, plan to leave before closing time so you’re not with a herd of drunks, especially on Friday night where people will have no problem accessing beer (versus Saturday where it is so crowded they can’t get anything to drink).

If you don’t have a DD and don’t want to mess with cabs, you can book a hotel through the Beer Fest website for a discount. You might even get a sweet bag like I did! All the yogis know I’m serious when I stroll in with that bag on my back 😉
