Deal: 10 cent 4x6 prints at Kodak

Get 4"x6" prints from KodakGallery for only 10 cents (normally 15 cents). No minimum order, but the offer ends April 3, 2007.
From now through April 3, 2007, all 4 x 6” Prints are on sale for 10¢. There’s no coupon code to enter; the discount will be taken automatically when you check out. No minimum purchase required.
I like using this service because I can pick up the prints next day at CVS. I know Walgreens offers same-day service, but in order to get a deal through them you have to buy 100 prints and if you do not use their services for 11 months, they delete your images. I have photos at Kodak dating back to 2001.

The only hitch I see is that , is I have been trying to upload three sets of photos I have taken the last couple of days and none are making it to the site. grrrr!

Back from Austin, TX...

and it was F-U-N! Most places I visit I enjoy, but not so much that I would consider going back, but Austin I would.

Plus, it was a relatively cheap trip for me: I exchanged a gift card from my credit card rewards for a flight through my dad's frequent flier miles (had to pay $5), booked a round-trip on SuperShuttle for ground transport from the airport to the hotel and seven of us split two rooms at the Hampton Inn so we had lovely breakfasts.

The only costs were meals and bevos since we walked to all destinations, including the Lyndon B. Johnson Library Museum, which we were told was the only free Presidential museum. I'm going to tuck that fact away for bar trivia in the hopes it secures victory (probably won't since we've never taken first place, but I keep hoping)!

I am waiting on some more Super Fly Monkeys for my brother and nephew's birthdays because I figure we can go outside and have monkey races!

I added the Feedburner readers widget to the side because I like knowing I have more than three readers - yay! For those who are subscribers and seeing old posts again, it is because instead of just deleting spam comments, I have been closing the comments to cut back on the potential for new spam. If you are set to ignore updated items, you will not be bothered by this.

Crafting Cacophony II: More Scrapbooks

Every other month, kel hosts Crafting Cacophony as a way to gather friends for crafting, laughter, food and all that goodness. I participate via blog :)

At the first ever Crafting Cacophony, I was working on altering a child's chunky board book into a scrapbook (top right) and now it is finished!

The plan has been to create scrapbooks for my friends as a means to use the double prints I have and give them out when we all meet this coming weekend in Austin. It's not going to happen because two are completed, one needs journaling and three are WIPs.

I have two other friends that I am making scrapbooks for (because I have a lot of prints of them, too) and I have only completed one and another is a WIP.

3 down, 5 to go! Part of what is slowing me down (besides lack of time) is creating a different book from the previous and it takes time to come up with something interesting to journal!

As for the books in the photo, the one on the left is a 6x6 book. The inside pages are 6x12 and the cover is 9x12 folded at 3inches to create interior pockets (to store the extra photos that won't make it into the scrapbook). The center is punched at the top and bottom and ribbon is threaded through with enough to wrap to the outside and serve as a tie close.

The bottom right book is two 4.5x7 pieces of heavy cardboard and the inside pages are from leftover drawing paper that are layered with printed paper. I punched the sides and used ribbon to tie it together.

The next Crafting Cacohphony is May 15 and maybe I will be on the ball and mention it a few days in advance in case others would like to play along!

Entrepreneurial Ladies & the Library

The American Library Association has teamed up with Woman's Day Magazine to present stories about women and the library. The recent issues showcases how the library changed four women's lives. At the end of the article there is a call for submissions from women who have used the library to start a business.
Have you started your own business?
If you’ve used the inspiration and extensive resources at the library to help you start and run a successful business, tell us how in an essay of 700 words or less. Up to four women will be featured in an upcoming issue of Woman’s Day. Go to womansday.com/ala between February 13 and May 10 for official rules and how to enter.
Just last week I learned that Ernest Gallo used a recipe from the library to launch his winemaking business.
Ernest Gallo, who parlayed $5,900 and a wine recipe from a public library into the world's largest winemaking empire, has died at his home in Modesto at the age of 97.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Soon after I bought my cupcake carrier, I decided to get my sister one for her birthday, except I had to wait months to give it to her (and now I am posting a week after her birthday)!

And because she is the mother of one of my cupcake-loving buddies, I thought I should fill it with cupcakes - mini ones! Also, since I like giving theme gifts I got her mini cupcake tins and pretty printed papers, but I dropped the ball by misplacing the papers during my move and cannot find them. Probably in July I'll find them which means I'll have to make cupcakes again!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Make It: Mini Muffins

I'm going to a St. Patrick's Day breakfast and offered to bring mini muffins so I could use my new pans, which are from Target's Dollar Spot (but they were a $2.50 item).

I made 24 blueberry and 24 lemon poppy. Since I don't want to worry about getting my container back, I fit all 48 in a Qdoba container!

Library Hero!

Here's a positive library story about a Children's Librarian I have had the pleasure to work with and now miss.

If you are from the tri-state area tune into channel 9 at 9pm on Friday to see Miss Arnice who was honored as a Everyday Freedom Heroes at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in November.
Arnice Smith is a College Hill children's librarian who holds after-school study sessions for at-risk students.

"I don't think of myself as a hero," says Smith, a mother of two who lives in Cheviot. "Because for me, this is what I'm supposed to be doing."
The photo that is running with the article, TV special lauds 'Heroes', is from a couple years ago when Miss Arnice was one of 27 U.S. public librarians to receive the New York Times' Librarian Award for community service.

So I've gotten to work with Miss Heidi the Academy Awards replica dress maker and Miss Arnice a s-hero!

Library Theft = Arrest

I am happy to see they caught this woman, because it stinks for the other patrons who would have liked to borrow the materials she stole and sold.

COLERAIN TWP. – A 35-year-old woman is under arrest for her alleged involvement in the theft of hundreds of children’s DVDs and video games from the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.

Colerain Township police said today that 837 items worth $16,684.95 were taken from 21 different library locations in Hamilton County. Most were sold at area Gamestop video game locations.

Target: Madison Trestle Desk

Target: Madison Trestle Desk
Originally uploaded by udandi.
I have long loved this desk having seen other crafters use the white version for their main workspace, but I was not about to pay an additional $70 to have it delivered since it is a $200 desk. The other week, I saw the antique black in-store for $160 and decided to spurlge.

It was easier to assemble than it was to get it home, luckily my dad has a truck and was available to haul it for me. Then I had to bring it just inside, unpack and move the pieces to its final place and then assemble it.

It is nice and long, a little deeper than most desks I have looked at, but I am cautiously adding items to the shelves and desktop because I want to make sure I have room for working on projects while keeping those items I need for personal and project use are close by. If I get it situated to how I like and it doesn't look junky, I'll post another photo!

Behind the Scenes @ udandi

Liquor Dispenser Pump
Originally uploaded by udandi.
For those (all 3 of you; you are the best!) still checking in and curious why I am not posting daily: my Internet connection bit the dust, then I moved (and am still unpacking) and now I am starting a new job on Monday!

I will get back into a regular crafting and posting schedule...someday!

One gem that made the move and has been unpacked is this liquor dispenser/pump that I picked up a couple of years ago at an antique shop. Have you ever noticed that when shopping an antique, thrift or flea market and you find something you are interested in, another shopper will hover around you? That was the case with this item and I have seen plenty of these so it isn't like it was a one-of-a-kind-must-have. Be kind to your fellow shoppers and give them some space!
