Flipping through the February 2009 issue of Martha Stewart Living, I saw a playing-card Valentine project that involved glassine or vellum envelopes and a laser or ink-jet printer, all dependent on the smudge factor and too much formatting for me to call it a quick afternoon project. Also, I drop off cards at nursing homes to give out and I thought that even Martha’s regular size playing card might be difficult for that audience to read.
Adapting the project to what supplies I have on hand, I pulled out a deck of mini playing cards (I used to give them away with udandi shop orders – aw, the good old days!), red cardstock and ribbon. I opened Word, created a 5″x8.5″ document, typed Martha’s sentiments in the lower right corner and printed. Then, I took the cards with hearts and a couple cards from another suit and arranged them on the fronts. I scored and folded the cards in half. I finished the fronts with ribbon and stamped ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’ inside.
Sentiments:
I’m Betting You’ll Be My Valentine
We’re Two of a Kind!
You Suit Me!
You are an Ace!
King of My Heart
Queen of My Heart
I ran out of red cardstock before I ran out of heart cards so I need to see what other cardstock I can fish out.
With one month until Valentine’s Day, here are my 2005 cards and 2006 cards but do not ask me why I did not upload 2007 or 2008
