Declutter: Photos

This photo illustrates why I love my digital camera so much. I have 3 boxes of prints, negatives and photo CDs from the days before I had a digi-cam. In my continuing effort to declutter my life, I have weeded them down to 2 boxes. The piles on the left are doubles that I can give to friends and the pile on the right will be trashed since they are photos of people I don't know or just bad photos (doubled).

While I accomplished the 2 box feat, I am questioning why I will keep the negatives since even if I took the time to identify the negatives, I do not forsee a time when I will want a re-print. I haven't in the past. At the same time, I feel a little odd just throwing them out so I will probably keep them until I organize my pre-college photos into albums and then re-visit the issue.

At least with a digital camera I end up only keeping the really good, usable photos so I eliminate uploading, printing and storing photos that are blurry, dark, overexposed or a finger on the lens. I feel organzied and not bogged down with more STUFF!

Way to go! I'm in a similar situation. I was actually really great about putting all my photos in albums from the time I started taking pictures as a child, until I got married. Since then, they all got put in boxes until I got a digital. I love it! When I finally get around to putting the pictures in albums, I plan on putting the negatives (of the pictures that are in the album) in an envelope attached to the back-inside of the album. That way, they aren't taking up an extra box, and if I ever do want a copy, they are there. Someday, it would be cool to scan them all, but that's a way bigger undertaking.

Ohh boy I definitely have the same love for my digital camera & millions of pictures left over. I just weeded through a bunch and still have way too many, thankfully my mom bought me two beautiful photo albums (no more scrapbooking!) for Christmas that both hold 400 pictures, once I fill those up my clutter will be out of my mind for a while as far as I'm concerned ;)

I used to have qualms with throwing my negatives out too until I realized that Kmart & Walmart have the Kodak picture maker things where you can just scan your photo & enlarge it/make another print for fairly cheap..I definitely shredded the negatives before throwing them all out though! =)

Unrelated comment... Hey Udandi! Not sure where you live, but if it's anywhere near Seattle, you are totally invited to the Crafting Cacophony! =)

Hi Udandi!!! Looks like you're off to a great start for the new year with all your photo decluttering. I keep negatives too even though I know I'll probably never do anything with them. Go figure? Must be some mental block I have to get over before I can chuck them. LOL

Thanks for letting me know about your selling experiences at Half Priced Books. I can't believe how little they offered you for your CD's. I started setting aside some items I want to try selling there. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm curious how much they will offer me.
