Time to Pay the Bills!

I always get a chuckle when DJs say "...and now it's time to pay the bills" as a segue into a commercial break.

I received my alumni quarterly newsletter and there is a profile of a guy who started an agency that negotiates product placement in television shows. Although The Price is Right has had product placement for years, this is an obvious progression for scripted, reality and home design shows given that we live in a DVR-driven world where commercials are becoming obsolete.

As for me, I will be paying the bills by spending my weekend selling shoes at the Indianapolis Feis! Not only will I get to enjoy the same music all day, but hopefully I will take in such delights as shirts bearing the witty lines of "life in the feis lane" and "don't you wish your girlfriend was an Irish dancer like me." But talk about paying the bills, I always end up wondering what these parents have to do finance their kids' dancing careers because those dresses, shoes, wigs and other "must have" accessories are not cheap!
